IT Support for Construction and Trades

For businesses whose work happens on a site, in a truck, or in a yard, not at a desk.

This is the largest single group we work with. HVAC, landscaping, land survey, site management, and manufactured-home resale are all in the book, which means we’ve already met the problems that come with a workforce that’s rarely in the office.

What we see in construction & trades

  • The office is wherever the crew is

Estimates, photos, and paperwork are produced on phones and tablets in the field, then need to reach the office intact. When that hand-off relies on somebody remembering to email themselves a photo, things get lost.

  • Devices live hard lives

Phones and tablets get dropped, soaked, and left in trucks. What matters isn’t the device surviving but the data on it being somewhere else, and the device being remotely wipeable when it disappears.

  • Yards and equipment need watching

Tools, materials, and machinery sitting in a yard overnight are a standing target. Cameras are the obvious answer, and the part that gets done badly is everything behind them.

  • Connectivity where there isn't any

A trailer on a site with no wired connection still needs to reach the office systems. There are good answers to this and there are answers that cost a fortune and barely work.

The thing we fix most often

Cameras on the same network as everything else. A yard camera system is frequently the least-secured device a contractor owns, and it’s very often plugged straight into the network that also carries the accounting file. Separating them takes an afternoon and removes an entire category of risk.

Questions from this sector

The ones we get asked most by construction & trades businesses.

  • Can you get internet to a jobsite trailer?

Usually yes, and the right answer depends on how long the site will be live and what’s already nearby. Options run from a cellular router to a point-to-point wireless link back to a building you already control. We’ll tell you which is worth it for the duration of the job instead of selling the most expensive option.

  • What happens when a crew member loses a phone?

With devices enrolled in management, the answer is that you remotely wipe it and issue another one. Without that, the answer is that whoever finds it has your email, your customer list, and possibly your accounting system. Enrolment is inexpensive and takes minutes per device.

  • We already have cameras. Can you just check them?

Yes, and it’s worth doing. The three things most often wrong are that the cameras share a network with business systems, that retention is shorter than anyone believes, and that the recorder is reachable from the internet. All three are fixable without replacing the cameras.

We already know your industry’s headaches

Twenty minutes on what you run and what keeps breaking. No pitch, and no obligation.
